Just Now

My Boat finally arrived in November, just in time for the end of carp season! Shipping her from Florida and dealing with flaky freight companies and truck drivers was a bit stressful, but she made it in one piece. The whole package, boat, motor, gas, trailer, weighs in at less than 800 pounds, so she is a breeze to tow, and easy to handle with one person.

Her maiden voyage was in The Dalles, which was not where I had intended, but the small lake I wanted to try her at was so low the boat ramp was completely dry. The Marsh Hen is 15′ long, 4′ wide, and is usually built with a 9.9hp or 15hp motor, but she arrived with 20hp! I believe that is because the center console and poling platform add some weight. With two people, the 20hp seems perfect, but it’s a bit overkill with just me aboard.

Even though the water is low and the carp are gone from the flats for the Winter, I have been out at least once a week just to run the motor and practice launching, poling, and trolling.

  1. Adam – congratulations on the boat. I wonder if you could drive it up to Puget Sound and go for some of those sea run cutthroat? You live in gorgeous country with great water – so many possibilities. Enjoy!

    1. Thanks Georgi! I don’t know much about the cutthroat fishery, but I am sure I could take the boat up to the Sound. There are so many fishing options in the region it’s almost overwhelming!
