Recently I’ve been exploring some nearby water with our inflatable SeaEagle boat. The boat is ideal for freshwater fishing but I haven’t used it much in the ocean. As I expected, the relatively high profile makes it a bit awkward in windy conditions and it doesn’t track as well as a hard kayak, especially in the surf. The negatives are balanced by the boats durability and extremely shallow draft and with two people paddling even windy conditions are manageable.
The fishing has been good, with plenty of small papio biting fast and hard. I haven’t hooked any big fish lately but it’s only a matter of persistence. In between papio I did land a healthy barracuda that was lying in wait just past the edge of the reef.
